Domaine JF Jacouton

INDEX

North Rhone Valley

Grandson of a local winegrower, Jean-Francois founded this small five-hectares Domaine in 2010 in Vion in the North of Tournon. He has just been joined by his son.
The steep, terraced vineyards need a lot of hard work, necessitating everything to be done by hand, as tractors and machines can’t get anywhere near. The view on the Rhone river valley from these granite stony hills is breath taking. Sun, stone and Rhône combine to produce ripe fruits with a lot of minerality, fragrance and freshness.

A small family producer passionate about his terroir and his native land, Jean-Francois ticks all the boxes to join Wine Story’s team.

Viognier “Granit” 2017 IGP des Collines Rhodaniennes 75 cl

100% Viognier at 350 meters of altitude- 50% of the wine is aged 8 months in barrels on its fine lies.

The granite soil (hence the name of the Cuvée), brings a mineral coolness to this wine which takes from its IGP appellation “vin de Pays” only the name. For sure it’s a great wine in the same league as many Condrieu.
Jancis Robinson: "Banana ice-cream and pineapple with a sweet musky character - overdelivers on the nose. Lovely buttery notes on the palate, buffed and polished to a perfectly round mouthfeel. Lighter than many Rhône Viogniers, but no dilution of flavour. Expertly done - very good." 17 points

Saint Joseph Blanc “Souvenir d'André” 2017 75 cl

Blend of Marsanne and Roussanne grapes.

Delicate scents and palate texture. With modesty, a grand Cru of the Saint-Joseph appellation!

Condrieu 2018 75 cl

100% Viognier

There are now plantings of Viognier in Languedoc and even in various other countries but this grape’s spiritual homeland is in Condrieu – where the finest Viogniers are produced from just over 100 hectares of vineyards. The wines are dry with a wonderful floral nose of peaches, apricots, violets and pears with low acidity.

Saint Joseph Rouge “Pierres d'Iserand” 2017 75 cl

100% Syrah, 50% of the wine is aged in barrels.

Aromatic floral and fruit scents with a smooth palate. Fans of full bodied and rich Syrah wines pass on by, here we are talking of delicate tannins dressed in elegance.

Saint Joseph Rouge “Chemin de Saint-Epine” 2017 75 cl

100% Syrah, 50% of the wine is aged in barrels.

The Cuvee Sainte-Epine in St-Jean-de-Muzols, named after the most famous plot of vine in all the Saint-Joseph red appellation, it is shared with other renowed domains such as the brothers Gonon who purchased it in the mid 2000s from the iconic retiring Raymond Trollat. After rented a small parcel (equivalent of 3 barrels) for few years Jean-Francois just purchased it with his son Hugo.
Very ripe black fruits, velvity tannins (the Jacouton signature) with a full-bodied palate. Grand vin, testimony of top French Northern Rhone Syrah.

Crozes-Hermitage 2018 75 cl

100% Syrah, fruity and medium-full bodied.

Cornas 2016 “Terre de Feu” 75 cl

100% Syrah, lighter style compared to some other very full bodied Cornas.
