Madiran

Philippe Mur - Madiran & Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh

The Madiran region is located in the Béarn, to the South-West of Bordeaux. Madiran wines are grown on clay and limestone hills along the left bank of the river Adour. Phillipe Mur, who was previously a wine-maker at Château d’Aydie (one of Madiran’s most famous), created Clos Basté in 1998 with 10 hectares of land, planting 5500 plants per hectare. Phillipe leaves his wine to macerate for 5 weeks in small large tanks with a capacity of 40 hectolitres and his entire wine making technique follows that of a Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux.

100% Tannat - Ageing: 12 months in 400L barrels of (1/3 new, 1/3 one wine, 1/3 two wines).

The palate is powerful and fleshy, with endless length, notes of blackberries and roasting.

A great wine, certainly, worthy of the most beautiful cellars where its aptitude for aging (more than ten years) will be wonderful.

The sommelier's advice: to be served at room temperature (17 ° C), carafe it one hour before.

It will be paired wonderfully with a side to the bone, a grilled duck breast, or a cheese from the Pyrenees.
