Saint Pourçain
Jean Teissèdre, Jérôme & Sophie Roux
The 7ha Domaine is in Cesset, situated in the South, extreme Est of The Loire Valley, in the county of Allier (Auvergne). It is the region of Saint-Pourçain Appellation, which lies on the Pilgrims’ route to Santiego de Compostela.
Odile & Olivier Teissèdre planted the vines in 1989 on the old “Clos des Bérioles” already there in 1809. The domaine started out with 3ha of vines located on clay-limestone slopes. Today, Olivier’s son Jean decided to take over the domaine and added 4ha. He built in a new cellar in 2011, the same year of the first vinification with the domaine’s own label. The domaine has 4.5ha in white grapes with Chardonnay and Tréssallier (Indigenous regional grape) a rare white variety as only 30ha exists in the world mostly in Saint-Pourçain, and 2.5ha in red grapes with Pinot Noir and Gamay. Jean’s sister Sophie and her husband came on board in 2014 with their vineyard experience from Rhone Valley. Jean is focusing on improving the organic and biodynamic practices on the vineyard and expects a certification by 2019.
